  • large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • unsalted butter
  • olive oil
  • salt
  •  sugar
  • cloves garlic, minced
  • beef stock
  • dry white wine
  • bay leaf
  • fresh thyme leaves
  • baguette, sliced and toasted
  • grated Gruyère cheese

Instructions
 

  • Melt butter with olive oil in a pot and add sliced onions.
  • Season with salt and sugar; cook until caramelized (30–40 minutes).
  • Add garlic, then deglaze with white wine.
